Haikus

The cat sat

By the window

And felt the wind on his whiskers

The wind bumped into the cat

The cat knocked the wind out of him hehe

The window had felt like it was being watched

Then the wind came and the cat had a kerfuffle

Repeat the line:

Monday

I wake up early the news is already on the headline: “will COVID 19 close schools”?

“Will they?” I ask we “we don’t know” a lot fewer kids were at school today I didn’t notice,

I Go to sleep

Wednesday

I wake up early the news is already on the headline: “15 more cases in New York

Will we be ok? I ask yes, YES. I go to school even fewer kids than yesterday I didn’t notice,

I go to sleep

Thursday

I wake up early new is already on the headline: “50 more cases today.”

I hear murmurs of should we leave? And should he be out of school?

I try to ignore it. I go to school most of my friends are gone, I start to notice,

I go to sleep

I wake up to the sound of my parent’s feet moving on my apartment floor “Hi Zakir, we are going to hold you from school today.”

I freeze, everything just got real.

Rhythm

I sat at the park swish

I waited to play dribble dribble

I got up just, to feel the breeze the breeze was fresh baked goods ssshhhhhhhh

Then gathered my self-esteem

I asked a boy if I could play, can I?

He just looked at me and sighed sigh

I sat back down stared at the floor blank

And kept waiting.

LOvE THaT DoG

I remember in 2008 when I went out the door and out the gate, To go celebrate in the street of that awful R’s defeat. I remember the smile on my mom’s face the world felt as if it were whole again| my dad was in a happy place we were all really happy that you won. And then again in 2012, we knew you had done us well we were happy

We race down the block my feet hitting the concrete clank clank|

the smell of summer like bbq chicken and fresh salad| my nostrils sniff the air|

“I win!” I say feeling victorious hurray

“Wanna get your bike out?” I ask

Skskskskskskskksks my bike hits the pavement I feel free on my bike happy even.

The offwhite moped

went down a never ending road in Arabia

It’s engine had been going for hours. The man riding the moped stopped to gaze at the sun high up in the sky|

the mopeds engine groaned but the man ignored it, it would be a long time till he would sleep again.
