15 spring peepers
Chirp chirp chirping
A perching robin
Sing sing singing
Maples Standing tall
Sway sway swaying
With the wind
And a hunter’s Ford pickup
With a dead man inside
Bleeding

Squirrel aiku
Life is like a squirrel’s
Stash of nuts, knowing the Squirrel,
he will forget ‘bout it soon

The wave
It was only a year ago
When I was far from home
Yet in a place I would rather have be my home
I was in the water
Clear as crystal
Exposing the rocky surface below
I forgot to look ahead of me
And when I did
It was too late
A man was there
In the water
The man was the water
In the form of a giant wave
Coming for me
And me alone
Why was it that
5 feet away
Just out of reach
The water was as calm as a glass full of water
unrattled
As I stood there thinking I realized that I was sitting down
On the sand
Wet
And covered
Absolutely covered
With thick
Slimy green seaweed
And I realized
That the wave had already passed
Or possibly,
had never come at all

A red die
Standing still
On the carpet
Immune to the light breeze
Almost unfeelable
Passing by magically
It’s twenty sides balanced equally in shape size and color Beautiful triangles
Miniature compared to the vast world around it
A soft bassanova plays in the background
A deep crimson
Seen in blood
Made to strike terror in the hearts of enemies
But to the right eye
Japanese maple
On the neighborhood block
Calm
Soft
Yet bold

Staring blankly at the world around them

The excitement
Of the hunt
Is available
Within the domain
Seemingly puny
Compared to
The vast world

To find life

And begins its morning routine

The creatures possibly down with the Stockholm syndrome
Beg for attention
And then once it is given to them
They refuse it
Their lifestyle can seem crude and vulgar
But we mustn’t blame them
For they are simply housecats in a world of beasts
