Haiku poems
A Sunset
A hot, bright sun hangs
Over a smooth endless sea
The sun sets, sinking
The Tree
It’s branches stretching
A race, up to the warm light
The tree, a strong tower
LIST POEM!
Thanksgiving dinner
All around the table my family eats their dinner
A light brown roast turkey
Like a centerpiece sitting in the middle of the table
Dark red cranberry sauce
Long thin green asparagus
Warm steaming potatoes
And more
Dessert comes
Soft Pumpkin pie
Crisscrossed Cherry pie
Creamy white ice cream
Like little clouds sitting on the slices of the pie
Thanksgiving dessert
My story poem
The diving board
The diving board
Squelch, squelch
Water splashes around under my bare feet
I walk to the edge of a long blue diving board
People wait behind me
This is my first time
I don’t think I can do it, as I look down into the long drop ahead of me
I steady my shaking hands and jump
I am
falling and
falling and
falling
I am a stone plummeting toward the water below
Then
Suddenly
I splash into an icy sea
And I know I have reached the bottom
The Poem - The Picture
The light brown wooden framed picture hangs up against a milky white wall
Two different types of paper, one white and one a light olive green with a tint of gold
These papers surround a picture of a dark brown tree
The trees branches and leaves spread out over dancing shadows of people down below
One half of the background is a light blue
The other half is a light green
A white outlined circle with a sun rising over a red and white valley
like it's rising over the American flag
It lies at the base of the tree
Under the tree is soil where the trees roots spread out into complicated patterns
The picture lies above an old bench
Summer by the Sea
Summer by the sea
Squack, squack, scuack seagulls and other unfamiliar birds flying overhead
Like white kites swerving in between each other
Occasionally diving into the water to grab a tasty snack
Summer by the sea
White and yellow shells laid along the water soaked sand
Drifting in and out with the coming and going waves
Like a colourful path leading to nowhere
Summer by the sea
The hot sun beating down on me from above
Sweaty and hot, no shade anywhere
Summer by the sea
Clear blue sky with no clouds
Endless
Summer by the sea
The Sunset
Layer 1 sitting on the blanket
I sit there
My sister snacking on potato chips beside me
Not even paying attention to the beautiful scene before us
She’s the only one
My aunt sits next to me
With my brother in front of us, lying back on a beautiful bag
And my parents on the other side
All of us, sitting on a striped blue, red, green and black blanket
Staring as if we are watching a movie
Watching red, orange, purple, blue so many colors making up
A beautiful sunset
Layer 2. Plants. Swaying, animals
Swaying palm tree shhhhhhhhh, shhhhhhhhhh
Click, click, click
Rustle rustle
Cricket, cricket
Flap, flap
Layer 3
Roar, crash
Waves crash onto helpless sand
Creating a kind of rhythm
Sea gulls, shed, shed
Swish swish
My Cat
Small and furry
White, brown and black
sneaking about the house
Like an unseen ghost
Until popping out of nowhere
Whining for food every hour of the day
Then when finally getting it, whining for hours after
Sometimes sleepy, sometimes energetic
My cat
The Dinner
Soft, warm p o t a t o e s,
Long chewy asparagusa s p a r i g u s
The room is warm and people are laughing
I sit in silence, daydreamin
A big pot of hot steaming m a c a n d c h e e s e
My brother and sister tear at the Mac and cheese each grabbing at the big serving spoon like a couple of wild animals
sits on a brown cork pad on the wooden table
The Mac and cheese is burning hot when my tongue touches it
And I quickly pull away
List Poem
My room
My room
Books on the shelf stacked next to each other neatly
Five or six pictures
A white and pale brown desk sits by the wall
And a green chair
A brown billboard against the wall
Two windows with blue wavy curtains like cloth waves
Squares stitched together to form my carpet
Two pillows lie on my bed
One BIG
And
One small
This poem is inspired by Valerie Worth
Water
All shapes and sizes
Solid, liquid or gas
Waving up and down, up and down
Floating in the air
Hard and cold
Different colors
A silky smooth substance
Like nothing but still something
Water
Climate change( Inspired by Kwame Alexander's poem)
This is for the melting Icebergs and homeless polar bears
This is for the animals that have to adapt to a new hotter climate
This is for the flooding cities and climate refugees
This is for the protesters who march through the streets calling for justice
