BFHS has partnered with Chandler-Gilbert Community College to offer students the ability to earn transferable college credits while enrolled in select high school courses. All Maricopa Community Colleges and Public Arizona Universities recognize these college credits. For private and/or out-of-state colleges dual enrollment, students should consult the Academic Advisor and refer to the college’s transfer credit guidelines to ensure that dual enrollment credits will be recognized.
Dual Enrollment courses are taught by BFHS faculty on campus and meet both BFHS and CGCC requirements for awarding credit. The ability to offer a dual enrollment option for a course is not guaranteed each year due to the partner college's curriculum content requirements not being aligned with BFCS values and/or specific instructor qualifications not being met as mandated by the Higher Learning Commission.
Tuition is more affordable at a community college than at public or private colleges and universities. See the Tuition Fee Schedule for more information.
Benefits of Dual Enrollment:
Accelerate time to degree completion -- A bachelor's degree typically takes four years to complete. By taking courses while in high school, you can complete your degree sooner.
Save money -- Save on college tuition compared to most Arizona four-year universities
Easy transferring -- Most academic credits easily transfer to public universities in Arizona. They may also be accepted at private or out-of-state institutions. Always check with the receiving institution to verify transferability and applicability to your major and degree.
Build confidence -- Going to college is stressful under the best circumstances. Participating in our dual credit program offers you a way to ease the transition from high school to college by supporting you with a strong system of services geared toward making you a successful student.
Dual enrollment is an opportunity for eligible high school students to earn lower-division college credit during their regular high school classes. The credits students earn through dual enrollment are treated the same as regular college credit, i.e. they can be transferred to other Maricopa community colleges, Arizona’s state universities, and even some out-of-state colleges.
Students will be establishing a college academic record and will be required to report their enrollment to future colleges/universities.
BFHS partners with Chandler-Gilbert Community College to offer Dual Enrollment credit for academic classes.
Dual Enrollment courses are held on high school campuses and are taught by high school instructors who have met community college hiring qualifications. Through Dual Enrollment we strive to ease the transition from high school to college and to increase the number of college-bound high school students in our community.
Dual enrollment students receive a grade and credit for work completed throughout the year. These credits usually transfer to your college of choice as direct course equivalents. Chandler-Gilbert Community College and the Maricopa County Community Colleges District have agreements with the three Arizona state universities, as well as many out-of-state colleges, to accept dual enrollment class credit. Students should confirm credit transfer policies with the college/university of their choice for the most up-to-date information.
Credit is based on the grade received in the class, not on one test taken at the end of the year.
Books are provided by the high school, giving students the added financial benefit of not needing to purchase textbooks.
Community college tuition rates are typically much lower than state universities. Dual enrollment students pay the community college tuition rate, which is roughly 1/3 what they would pay at a state university.
Students can start college with several credits completed. This allows students to focus more on their college majors, explore other disciplines, or even graduate early.
Since the college credit from dual enrollment comes with a grade, students can start college with an already well-established GPA.
These challenging courses enhance higher level thinking skills, which prepare students for college/university classes.
Dual Enrollment registration is online through https://www.cgc.edu/admissions/high-school-students/dual-enrollment/getting-started.
The in-state/in-county tuition rate is $85 per credit hour. There is an additional $15 registration fee once per semester for each community college a student is registered to complete dual enrollment. (Tuition is subject to change).
