Regarding our 2023–2024 academic year, there are a few pieces of information we wanted to share with parents. First, kids who attended John S. McCain III Elementary School during the 2022–2023 academic year will be carried over automatically into the 2023–2024 academic year.
NEW JSM Parents will need to enroll their children online or pick up a paper application package from the office if they are new students in our 2023–2024 academic year. A copy of the applicant's birth certificate, current immunization records, and evidence of residency are all required documents.
Depending on where you reside you will need an Open Enrollment form with the registration packet. The open enrollment is stating that since you are not within the boundaries of John S. McCain III Elementary School parents will be responsible for the transportation.

Kindergarten has LADYBUGS!!!
We have been hard at work observing and predicting the life cycle of our little ladybugs and the kids have done such a great job. Now that they have 'hatched' we will be releasing them into our own courtyard garden areas and their life cycle will start all over again. It has been very fun watching them use their science and critical thinking skills throughout the observation process.
As we wrap up the school year we are not letting off the gas! Benchmark testing is just around the corner and we can't wait to watch them show all they have learned this year. They are also learning about Arizona symbols, outer space, and continuing to practice those fluency and reading skills.
1st grade
Just a couple more weeks and these amazing first graders will be off to 2nd grade. What a great year this has been! We are very proud of their hard work, we will cherish every moment spent together, friendships were made, learning was always fun and everyday we will never forget what a great year it was. We wish them only the best!
2nd grade
To our unforgettable 2nd graders,
We are feeling all the emotions as we begin wrapping up our time together! 2nd graders, we couldn’t be any more proud of you. You’ve come to school ready to learn each day and you’ve worked incredibly hard. So many memories were made, friendships flourished, and SO MUCH LEARNING took place. We’re going to miss your smiles and hugs, your jokes and laughs, and your attentiveness and hard work. Continue to do big things in 3rd grade (and come back and visit us!)
To their unforgettable families,
Thank you, thank you, thank you. None of what we do would be possible without you. Thank you for getting your babies to school, for supporting them (and us!) at home, and for always rooting for their success. Your kindness and love has been unmatched and we are so grateful. Once our student, always our student! Never hesitate to reach out to us—even in 3rd grade!
3rd grade
Thank you 3rd grade families for an amazing school year! As we finish the year, students will be diving into more problem-based learning/projects to wrap up our learning.
4th-grade
4th grade had a blast on our field trip to the Arizona Science Center to celebrate our hard work during State Testing! We are wrapping up the year by writing our Poetry Books in ELA and creating a PBL on Ice Cream Truck Design in Math. We are enjoying our last few days together.
5th grade
What is going on in 5th grade?
We just finished up ASAA testing! All of our students did an AMAZING job and we are so proud of all of them! They showed up each day with a positive attitude, and gave it all they had; even though it was a lot of hard work.
Ms. Jackson and Mrs. Black are wrapping up all their units from the year and prepping for sixth grade!
Miss Farkash finished the "Our Earth, Our Responsibility" homework project. The students did such an impressive job on their unique projects.
6th grade
In math we are studying Data Sets and Distributions! As we wrap up the year students will be applying their knowledge to different real-world problems. Can't wait to see them show what they know. Thank you for an amazing school year!
7th grade
Over the next few weeks 7th and 8th grades will be working on the following Units
7th Grade: We will be learning more about World War 2 including Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, and the Atomic Bomb
In 8th Grade, we are working on a unit called Global Policy. This unit will cover the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union and its impact on the world. his includes topics like the Space Race, Korean War, Vietnam War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
8th Grade
In Math, we have been working on a volume PBL, wrapping up our Unit 6 on Associations in Data, and will begin Tessellations on the plane to conclude our year of learning.
For the remainder of April in ELA we are finishing the novel, Farewell to Manzanar. We will finish with a final exam about the entire book. Also, we are reading a couple of articles pertaining to reparations for Japanese Americans after World War II. Writing assignments will be reflections and objective summaries on the subject of the Japanese American Internment unit.
In Science, we are learning about radioactive dating and how isotopes decay through calculating half-lives of different elements found in fossils. We are using the data and dividing it in half to find the age of fossils through practice problems and reading more about the geological time scale. We have been reviewing the layers of Earth, Plate tectonics & the rock cycle to support our exploration in our last unit of 8th grade science.
Students are working to develop their locomotor movements such as skipping, running, walking, jumping etc. Upper graders are preparing for their last mile run of the school year.
Please ensure that students are accompanied by an adult if they wish to watch the baseball and softball games; otherwise, they will not be permitted to do so.
Thank you
Big congratulations to Ms. Frondarina's (Alexis') Kindergarten class for winning the Penny Wars challenge and earning a pizza party! These little ones were so thrilled and their positivity truly shone through. We at Mavericks PTA are happy to reward them for their hard work and participation.
Let's give a round of applause to Ms. Grimaldi's 4th-grade class for their outstanding participation in the Penny Wars challenge! Despite bringing in the most silver (negative points), they remained good sports and showed incredible dedication and positivity. They truly deserve the well-earned pizza party! Mavericks PTA is proud to recognize and reward these rockstar students for their hard work and sportsmanship.
