This month is JAM packed with exciting events and school activities!
We wish everyone a safe and happy winter holiday and cant wait to see you all in the New Year!
Mrs.Anderson attended Central Michigan University. She taught for a couple of years in Michigan before moving here to Arizona in 2013. She worked one year in Gila Bend, then started working in the Buckeye School District the next year. She loves dogs, especially rescuing them. She has been known to keep dog food in her car if she happens to see any strays or any homeless that have dogs. She will make sure the dogs are well-fed! She loves to bake, and her favorite candy is Reese's cups. She also loves anything about Michigan and spending time with her family.
The DESSA provides a common lens and language for crafting an SEL program that involves educators, parents, and students. The DESSA is commonly used to inform the delivery of SEL at Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 as well as measuring the results of that delivery, and supports a variety of educational models including:
Academic Success
MTSS/Rtl/PBIS
Mental Health
School Climate and Culture
21st Century Skills
College and Career Readiness
Gifted and Talented
Equity
Restorative Justice
We Start With Strengths
The DESSA is entirely strength-based; meaning that the items query positive behaviors (e.g., get along with others) rather than maladaptive ones (e.g., annoy others). For each behavior, the rater (a teacher or parent) is asked to indicate on a five-point scale how often the student engaged in that behavior over the past four weeks.

First Grade
Dear Families,
In a blink of an eye, we are already close to the end of first semester of 1st grade. Our students have been learning a lot and have grown so much over the past couple of months, for that we are very proud. Now it’s time to show that growth in our Mid Year Benchmark Testing, after Thanksgiving Break our students will be taking Oral Reading Fluency Test and Nonsense Word Test. It is very important over these next couple of days we keep encouraging students to keep reading towards their goal. We are confident that they will rock it!
This month we were busy learning about the pumpkin cycle, animals, digraphs, Veteran’s Day and how to celebrate Thanksgiving, but definitely their favorite part was working on disguising their Turkey and they did a fantastic job at it.
Second-grade
We’ve been very busy in 2nd grade!
We are always focusing on becoming more fluent readers and our Phonics curriculum has helped big time! Currently, we are learning vowel teams and the sounds they make in words. Additionally, we are learning what it means to be a “great leader” by reading many stories about great leaders in history such as W.E.B Du Bois and Abigail Adams!
In Math, we wrapped up our unit on Measurement and we are diving back into Addition and Subtraction within 100.
We are looking forward to the holiday season and learning about Christmas around the world as well as spending time together before we head off for the holidays!
Third Grade
Our third graders have worked incredibly hard this first semester. We are so proud of all our third graders! These are some of our main focuses for the month of December. In ELA, we will be working on researching a student-chosen frog. Students will then write an informative essay about the frog they researched. In math, we will learn about division and strategies for dividing. In Social Studies, we will be learning about the structure of our government and how citizens work together.
Fourth Grade
Fourth grade is spending our last month of 2022 focused on wrapping up our ELA unit on the American Revolution. We will end the calendar year learning about decimals in Math and the structure of the Earth in Science!
Fifth Grade
We are so excited we have accomplished so much! Projects in all subjects! In Mrs. Black’s class, they used coding to create figurative language examples! In Ms. Jackson’s class, they used the constructive methods of Minecraft to construct a 3d model of volume! In Miss Farkash’s class, they were able to do a hands-on Science Lab using the scientific method! We even had the Daughters of the American Revolution come and explain the importance of the constitution!
We’ve also had extraordinary opportunities to learn through various games and activities, as we prepare for our midterm district assessments! Looking forward to the New Year and what it has in store for our Fantastic fifth graders!!
Sixth Grade
ELA - Students are beginning work on a Problem-Solution essay
Math - We are moving through Arithmetic in Base Ten! Students are adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing with decimals! Since this is a skill we need to be able to do fluently please be sure to check out the resources on the 6th Grade Website to support at home. One project we have worked on is shopping on a budget. Students were shocked to see how expensive groceries and delivery fees on Uber Eats can be!
Seventh Grade
In 7th grade science last week, students partnered up to create electromagnets by using batteries, copper tape, & an iron nail. Our next project will be creating simple circuits to light an led bulb. Science fair info is coming home with students this week & students have already began brainstorming their project questions.
Thank you to all of our parents who sent in treats and gift cards for our NWEA MAP testing incentives. It is so fun to spoil our students as they work so hard on their tests!
In 8th grade science this month, we ended our genetics unit and began our chemistry unit a week before Thanksgiving break. Students conducted three chemical reactions while learning how to differentiate chemical changes from physical changes. We ended the week reviewing the organization of matter & the carbon cycle. Be on the lookout for science fair information being sent home this week!
Donations needed for upcoming projects:
- mason jars or any glass jar with a lid
- empty clear plastic bottles with a lid (empty water bottles, etc.)
- 2 pocket folders

- popsicle sticks
- styrofoam/bubble wrap (any reusable packing from boxes)

8th grade ELA has been preparing for an informational essay on how things around us change our access to healthy food. We will be finishing the research and beginning the essay writing. Also, students will be designing a lesson plan and a chance to teach a group of students their lesson.
In 8th grade mathematics, students wrapped up Unit 3 on Linear Relationships and took their DFCA. Students enjoyed working with DESMOS, virtual manipulatives, and creating line designs for their portfolio projects. We have begun Unit 4 that covers Linear Equations and Systems of Equations.
8th grade is also looking forward to our PBIS rewards trip on December 15th!
Students have been working diligently on the Winter Concert.
We are so excited for you All to see their hard work!
