Title I, Part A of ESEA, more commonly known as “Title I,” provides federal funding for schools with a high number of children from low-income families. The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all students, regardless of income, can meet state academic standards. If an LEA receives any Title I funds, students experiencing homelessness will be automatically eligible for Title I services regardless of whether they attend a school building receiving Title I funds. LEAs receiving Title I funds are required to have a set-aside fund for students experiencing homelessness and should conduct a needs assessment to determine this amount.
