Zoom is a video conferencing app that's more powerful and has more features than Google Hangouts, so it's possible your teacher will invite you to a class in Zoom. Lucky for you, most of the Zoom setup has already taken place on your device! If you've got a Chromebook, Zoom has already been installed.
If you have a personal device, Zoom should install automatically when you accept a meeting invitation. Be sure to allow the program access to your camera and microphone when installing the app. If you do not grant the app permission, you won't be able to use the video conferencing features of Zoom.
The Zoom app should already be installed on your device, and you can open it up and sign in with your Google Account. After signing in it will ask you to Create an Account, and you should go ahead and do that. Next, you need to be invited to a meeting.
You'll most likely be invited in an email, and in that email you'll see a link to Join Zoom Meeting. Go ahead and click the link! It's possible the invite will come in a Google Calendar event. You can click the link in that too!
Once you follow a link back to the app it should fill in the Meeting ID field with the ID for your meeting (which you can also copy and paste from the email). Click on Join, agree to use your camera if you want, and the meeting should begin!
If for some reason, you're unable to join the video conference, you can use your phone to call into the Zoom meeting.
Find the Zoom invitation in your email on your calendar.
The Dial-in number is included in the invitation. Locate the "Dial by your location" section and dial the New York number. You'll also need your Meeting ID if you call into the meeting, so be prepared to enter it in the phone using your keypad when prompted. It is proper etiquette to announce yourself when you join the meeting, so say hello to your teacher classmates when you join.
