Strategy 2: BCPS will establish a culture of excellence by providing professional learning that facilitates the individual growth of all staff members to broaden job skills and enhance job performance so that students are supported by high quality employees.
Why Offer Pathways?
Self-regulation learning theory emphasizes the importance of learners having some level of control over their learning
Adults need to have autonomy to select the direction and pacing of their learning
Enhances motivation, improves culture, and increases outcomes
Social learning emphasizes adults learn when they have the opportunity to:
Collaborate with peers
Observe best practices
Pursue areas of individual interest
Learn in an informal setting

Educator input was collected from each Bedford County School to both identify and shape the vision and content of the seven professional learning pathways. A focus group consisting of staff from all twenty one schools was consulted to refine the pathways and the design framework. We hope the BCPS Professional Learning Pathways are flexible enough and comprehensive enough to honor the voices and goals of all of our educators.
