Science Week in Year 1
We were very lucky to welcome some great visitors to Year 1 during Science Week. We really enjoyed Mr Bidewell's talk and we then got stuck into some vegan cookery, making vegan chocolate chip cookies. As well as being delicious, we thought about the Science involved in cooking and we looked at how the different ingredients changed as they were mixed together and heated in the cooking process.
We have also put our investigative skills to good use by setting up our own experiment to work out which material would be the best for the outside of our robot shelters. We came up with some great ideas about which materials we could test, how we could test them and we thought about how we would know which material was the best. We worked with a partner to measure out and pour 5ml of water on to each material and we carefully observed what happened. We decided that plastic was the best material because it was waterproof, so the water ran off it, keeping the inside of the cup dry.
Some great waterproofing, covering our structures with plastic bin liners! Our robots stayed dry out in the rain!
