Year Four

Lullingstone Roman Villa

This module, Year 4 have participated in the Engineers Assemble science competition and it has resulted in a very practical module in relation to science. Alongside their practical work, the children routinely plan their own experiments using a range of resources and write their methods. Once they have completed their experiments, the children record their results and draw conclusions.

Engineers Assemble

To relate science to the wider world, the children have participated in the Engineers Assemble science competition. They have designed their own pulley system, their own windmill and also created an enclosure for Boki the bear based on known facts. The children have really enjoyed these tasks and they loved using a wider range of resources (like saws and glue-guns).

Inquiry with science

As part of our Inquiry, the children have been exploring how to improve access to water, food and energy. They learned how wind power and water filters work and which countries are in desperate need. Then, the children designed their own machines to solve the problem. The children used their science skills to design their machines and there were a lot of thoughtful discussions.

Live Science

The children thoroughly enjoyed science week and all the visitors. They particularly enjoyed taking part in the BBC's live science lessons. To learn about forces, the children helped an astronaut land from space safely. There were activities to complete during the lesson and the children were able to showcase their impressive knowledge on a topic we haven't yet studied in Year 4.
