We kicked things off with a fascinating exploration of the Golden and Silver Rules, sparking some "heated" yet incredibly respectful discussions. The students weighed the impact of these philosophies on our school and the wider world, critically analyzing both the obvious benefits and the potential complexities of living by these codes. We then put these values into practice by comparing two influential figures from different eras: John Wesley, the 18th-century Methodist leader who fought tirelessly for the abolition of slavery, and modern icon Stormzy, examining his work in promoting equity through scholarships and social advocacy.
The high-level thinking continued in our History lessons as we turned our attention to the legacies of past civilizations. We were tasked with ranking major innovations- including democracy, the Arabic numeral system, and even the origins of chocolate- based on specific criteria and diverse cultural lenses. It was a brilliant exercise in perspective-taking, though I think we all learned something about our modern priorities when sewer systems and running water consistently beat out everything else to take the top spot on almost every list!
To round off our week, we put the finishing touches on our individual collages, where we used a range of mediums and paper types to create our varied and exciting landscapes!
