We have had an excellent week in Year 2!
In Inquiry, the children have been writing diary entries from the perspective of Roald Amundsen, who sailed for 158 days to become the first person to reach the South Pole. The children worked hard to imagine the challenges he faced, including the extreme weather and long journey. We were incredibly impressed with the quality of their writing; they demonstrated empathy, creativity and excellent use of descriptive language. It was wonderful to see how proud they were of their finished pieces.
In maths, we have been learning to recognise halves and quarters of both shapes and numbers. Through practical activities and visual representations, the children developed a clearer understanding of how parts make a whole, building a strong foundation for future learning in fractions.
In DT, the children enjoyed taste testing a variety of fruits, describing flavours and textures carefully. They then used this experience to begin designing their own fruit kebabs, thinking about combinations and presentation, and are very much looking forward to making them next week.
In science, we have been learning about what plants need to survive, including water, light and suitable conditions. The children have begun investigating whether plants can grow in limited conditions, making predictions and observing changes over time.
In RE, we explored the Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot, learning about its meaning and how it is celebrated. In art, the children have continued manipulating paper and card to create paper planes, linking this to their learning about the Wright Brothers and early flight.
Well done Year 2, keep it up!
