It has been a heartwarming week in the nursery as we continue our journey through module 4. The children have fully embraced their roles as mini vets, showing wonderful empathy and curiosity as we explore how to care for the animals that share our world.
Our classroom ‘Vet Surgery’ has been the heart of play this week. Through our inquiry into how we care for pets, the children have been discussing responsibility by learning what animals need to stay happy. They have shared that animals need water, food, exercise, and love! They are developing their empathy by understanding that we need to be observant and gentle, as pets cannot tell us where they are hurting. The children have also been painting their pets, with wonderful results!
In phonics, the children have added two more sounds to their repertoire: the letters ‘i’ and ‘j’. Our Nursery children have also been copying percussion sounds with their bodies—for example, clapping, stamping, and clicking fingers.
In maths, the children have been subitising up to 5 and practising writing their numbers to 5. Our N1 children have been using five-frames to order and count objects.
