This week, Year 5 have made an enthusiastic start on planning their advertisements encouraging people to visit Greece. We began by exploring modern-day Greece and comparing it with our recent learning about Ancient Greece, helping us understand which historical elements we might include in our scripts.
The children learned about the features of persuasive writing and had an introduction to script writing. They have now started working in groups to plan and draft their advertisement scripts, thinking carefully about how to engage and persuade an audience.
Earlier in the week, we also compared the Ancient Greek Olympics with the modern Olympics, and explored Greek theatre, looking at how performances and venues have changed over time.
In Science, the class investigated water resistance by dropping different shapes—a sphere, cone and cube—into a measuring cylinder and timing how long each took to travel through the water. Through observation, the children explored how shape affects resistance and the speed it travels.
