We have enjoyed another busy week in Year 4. In Science, we are investigating States of Matter and their properties. The children explored classroom items to establish what was a solid, liquid or gas and much discussion resulted about how some of these could 'change their state' under certain conditions. Next week we hope to take an in depth look at the processes of melting , freezing and cooling.
In Geography, Year 4 applied their mapping skills to locate the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, which linked beautifully to our migration learning about the Windrush generation. The children have continued to work hard drafting and extending their migration stories, stepping into the shoes of a traveller aboard the Empire Windrush and reflecting sensitively on the emotions and experiences of leaving home to begin a new life 7,000 km away.
We ended the week challenging the children to ‘Escape from the Jungle.’ Plane had to be developed to work strategically, communicate effectively, and utilise limited resources to traverse the dangerous jungle floor. Two teams successfully transported their ‘injured survivor’ to safety and the others all made a brave effort to get as many of their group into the safety zone. Well done, Year 4!
