In year 5 this week, we looked at the geography of ancient Greece - On maps we researched and plotted the location of major cities and islands and colour coded features. We compared the ancient city states of Athens and Sparta and how their location, lives and values differ. We also started to research and take notes on three areas of Ancient Greek history we have been exploring: Greek thinkers, Greek buildings and Greek Mythology ready to practice writing into paragraphs. In science, we carried out an experiment on air resistance to highlight how friction changes speed. The children made their own parachutes of different sizes and timed how quickly they reached the ground. We concluded the bigger the parachute the slower the time it took to fall - this is because there is more air resistance as you increase the size.
