Year 4 have been busy this week preparing their DT project designing Anglo Saxon homes. Working collaboratively, they have researched features of buildings and discussed the relevant materials they could use to create an authentic build. They have also produced individual design criteria and sketches to ensure the build of their 3D home will be strong , stiff and robust. Using their mathematical knowledge of 3D shape, they have also practised creating structures from nets of cubes , cuboids and triangular prisms.
The children have also started to learn about the Windrush Generation ,finding out about the migration of many from the Caribbean in the hope of building new lives in Britain . This discussion has prompted some thoughtful questions and reflections about what life was like within living history. Finally we have been challenged in Problem Solving PE. Working in groups, the children had to work out a plan to escape an active volcano .. Both classes had to draw upon their critical thinking skills along with learning the power of true collaboration and active listening. Luckily they all eventually made it across the lava reaching the safe zone before home time!
