This week in Reception, during our Phonics sessions, we successfully introduced two new sounds, 'o' and 'g', alongside mastering the essential tricky word 'my'. Our Maths focus moved beyond shapes to concentrate on positional language, where the children used stories such as ‘We're Going on a Bear Hunt’ and ‘Rosie's Walk’ to learn and describe positions using words such as under, over, through, and across. This provided a fun, active way to understand spatial awareness. Finally, our Inquiry explored the wordless picture book ‘The Snowman’, which was a fantastic prompt for discussing self-expression. The children worked hard to create their own character puppets and create simple instruments, using these creative outputs to retell the story and express the mood and events they saw in the illustrations.
