The Gatherer

Sometimes you need a classic workhorse basket that is the perfect size to carry projects, garden produce or whatever "to and fro". This one has a woven base and an over/under weave structure. No frills, no dyed reed, just strong and useful!

Cornered

Start on a square open-weave base and lace on corner spokes. Get a domed cathead-style base and rounded sides using an upright weaving technique and a continuous weave and skip stitch. The 3-point braid corner treatment weaves with bleached cane. The handle is secured using a bead, screw and nut after the rimming is completed. Instructor will drill holes and attach.

Starting on a wood base with your favorite color-dyed spokes, weave this double wall basket with a striking diagonal weave on the inside and outside walls. Work on shaping and keeping the double walls together with emphasis on spoke placement. Add ceramic and beaded wire handles for easy carrying. Ten different color choices will be offered.

Try your hand at making brooms with handles. We will be using both craft broom corn and processed broom corn. Examples could be a single cobweb, a hearth broom, the blacksmith broom. You should finish 3 brooms. You will learn different tying techniques and options along with stitching. You will have many choices of cord colors.

Kodi's Nantucket

Students will learn the basics of setting up and finishing a Nantucket basket, by inserting the cane staves into the base and begin weaving with cane in an over under pattern and change to a twill to finish off the basket. Cherry base, lid and rim will be pre-finished.

Prerequisite: Experience in twills preferred.

Paper Patches

The third in my series of Paper Trays. The base of the basket (the focal point) consists of 36 twill blocks created with six bold colors. The sides continue the twill block pattern using black. Striking! Teacher will provide a wide choice of paper, hand-painted in bright colors and precut.

Prerequisite: Twill Experience required; paper weaving experience helpful.

Special tools needed for class: #26 tapestry needle, sharp scissors, several toothless micro-clips and a small thin packer.

Piggyback Prime

This basket is #4 in the Piggyback series. It is woven on a rectangular wood base and will be weaver-ready. Weavers will practice their twining, triple twine, Arrow triple twine, overlays, and stack weave. The color accents are in the primary colors.

Prerequisite: Have a knowledge of triple twine, and will work on shaping and measuring as we work.

Seneca Falls

This basket starts with a wood base that is attached to a plastic mold to achieve a perfect shape. Techniques include 4-rod wale with a step-up, adding overlays to the rim and a Fibonacci (1,2,3,) spiral weave. Color choices at class time. Molds can be purchased after class for $5 if desired.

Willow Wall Hanging
