The Missouri Basketweavers Guild (MBG) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) Educational organization. The guild is comprised totally of volunteers, dedicated to preserve and perpetuate the art of basketry, stimulate interest and knowledge in basketry, and preserve the importance of basketry as a heritage craft. Our members represent diverse experiences, skills, and share a love for basketry. We come from a wide range of geographic locations to learn, share and enjoy the company of others and weave a basket or two.
MBG hosts an annual convention during the last weekend in July or the first or second weekend in August in the state of Missouri. Activities begin on Thursday and conclude on Sunday. Members can attend a few days or all days. Attendees can choose classes from a variety of baskets from beginner to advanced skill levels. Students have the opportunity to learn new techniques and to weave new and exciting baskets. Everyone leaves the convention with new baskets, supplies, and new friends from around Missouri and across the country.
Attendees can purchase baskets and basket related items from other members and teachers at Market Place and/or shop with the vendors. Our silent auction always provides a wide range of basket related items, all donated by members and friends of MBG. On Saturday evening members attend the Awards Night activities, where MBG presents several scholarships in honor of Missouri basket pioneers as well as other special recognitions and scholarships. Exhibit Room awards are presented to the top winners in three categories; Professional, Hobbyist, and Beginner. Additionally, the Traveling Basket winner is announced. A brief general business meeting may be included to elect new officers, vote on any proposed by-law changes or address Guild issues.
We look forward to your joining us to weave together and share our love of basketry.
