Pearson Mathematics serves as Bellefonte Area School District's core mathematics resource for students in grades 9–12. The program is used across all high school mathematics courses and is designed to help students develop conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
Through rigorous coursework and mathematical tasks, students explore increasingly advanced topics while strengthening their ability to analyze situations, apply mathematical concepts, communicate their thinking, and solve complex problems.
The program includes a variety of instructional resources, practice opportunities, technology supports, and assessment tools that help students build confidence and proficiency in mathematics. Materials are aligned to Pennsylvania Academic Standards and support preparation for Keystone Exams, post-secondary coursework, technical training programs, and future careers.
Why We Use Pearson Math
Pearson Mathematics was selected as part of the district's mathematics curriculum review process because of its strong alignment to standards, comprehensive instructional resources, and ability to support a wide range of learners and mathematical pathways.
The program balances conceptual understanding with procedural fluency while providing students with opportunities to engage in mathematical modeling, problem-solving, and real-world applications. Its flexibility allows teachers to meet the needs of diverse learners while maintaining rigorous expectations for all students.
What Families Can Expect
Students may bring home classwork, practice assignments, and assessments connected to the mathematical concepts being studied in their courses. Families may notice that students are asked not only to solve mathematical problems, but also to explain their reasoning, justify solutions, and analyze mathematical relationships.
As students progress through high school mathematics, they will encounter increasingly sophisticated mathematical concepts that prepare them for college, career, and life after graduation.
