Bellefonte Area School District Curriculum Framework

Inspiring and Preparing Today’s Learners to Embrace Tomorrow’s Challenges

Our vision, as a district is to ensure through working collaboratively, we inspire a passion for learning, a commitment to excellence, and a respect for individuals and diversity as we prepare all students to be successful in an ever-changing global society. We value learning environments that are engaging, challenging, rigorous, purposeful, and relevant; educational opportunities that embrace best practices, data informed decisions, and a culture conducive to learning; and, we advocate cultivation of diverse perspectives, curiosity, and global competence.

To ensure our students meet with success both within and beyond our classrooms our curricular framework specifies the concepts and skills (what students need to know, understand, and do) within each content area. Our framework includes the transfer goals, big ideas, concepts, skills (competencies), essential questions, resources, and general assessments aligned to standards.

At BASD all curricular areas k-12 use state and/or national standards as a basis for curriculum development and instruction and meet or exceed state regulations.

As curriculum development is a dynamic process, our teachers continually examine their student data and make instructional changes, in alignment to the curriculum, as the student data indicates.

The frameworks for each curricular area may be accessed from this home page (see the links to the sub-pages below). You may access information on our text books and significant online resources through the sitemap above.

Additionally, under the resource tab above you will find links to several related sites that might be helpful for you with regard to curriculum and instruction.

Note: Our district routinely and methodically reviews current curriculum and re-aligns to the standards as needed. We follow the UBD protocol and ensure fidelity to the process via use of aligned templates, electronic access, and horizontal and vertical conversations. Our decisions are data informed and resources and instructional practices are reflective of research based sources. Departments regularly review the curricula in light of student data on an ongoing basis, making adjustments to components as data informs.
