Ode to my True Love

by Greg Barense

A year ago I was in town.

Twas on that sunny noon I lost my frown.

I looked in the store window and blinked again an again.

I could see me sitting on a big ole Schwinn.

I saved my pennies and paid the man.

It even had a kickup stand.

I took it home all shiny and bright.

I never thought I'd behold such a sight.

Black and silver with just one gear.

I knew I could ride it without any fear.

I mounted horns on both front and behind.

My wife thought I surely lost my mind.

My bike has shocks on the front.

Which makes my ride smooth and takes the brunt.

A light was mounted on the front hee hee.

So CJ an I could ride at night with great glee.

Thou some have 150r 18 gears.

One is enough for a man of my years.

With all those gears I never could decide.

I'd lose control, hit a tree, and hurt my pride.

I ride down the road and watch for the bump.

With my suspenders on my daughter in law calls m Gump.

I ride night and day with my police dog true.

My neighbors see me an haven't a clue.

If they ever saw Roy Rogers an his dog Bullet.

They'd know Tash an I make an exact duet.

So if you see us as we pass by.

Just wave your hand an holler hi.

So with CJ an my neighbor kids crew.

We patrol 80th an keep it safe and true.

so if you see us on some sunny day great!

Just watch out cause we don't steer so straight.

You might think I'm a funny guy.

You might hang your head and cry.

Or go out and howl at the moon.

But I'll be riding as happy as a loon.

The End
