Distinguishing Physical Properties:
This mineral is normally flat, and if you look closely looks layered (1 perfect cleavage). If you look very closely at the sides you can see
"stair steps" on the edges, which suggests 2 additional planes of cleavage. If you look closely through the semi-transparent mineral you might notice lines that cross, reinforcing the evidence that there are 2 additional cleavages.
The surface of this mineral displays many light scratches. This mineral is one of a couple that are softer than your fingernail.
One can eliminate calcite and/or dolomite as possibilities by testing with weak acid.
