Distinguishing Physical Properties:
Color is not diagnostic, but the luster is typical of this mineral. It usually has this dull, waxy look (but it definitely does not feel waxy!)
What a great example of conchoidal fracture - it's classic.
Students often spend too much time worrying about the weathering rind - these rocks have been sitting outside for thousands of years, they have often been transported, buried, and weathered (hard life). A rough and ragged and often crusty surface is common.
