Discussion Questions:

  1. Discuss a leader in your life, or someone who you think makes a great leader. What traits does that person possess that help you to connect that person to leadership?

  2. Were you surprised at the difference between leadership and management? Explain ways in the past you might have thought they were the same concept.

  3. Having completed the Leadership Quiz from the chapter, did you agree with the type of leader you were identified as? Having read through the different leadership styles in this chapter, which do you most closely identify with as your style?

  4. Explain an example of a type of leader or a management style that you have had experience with. What were some pros and cons of that style?

  5. Leaders get power in different ways. Provide examples of people who have achieved leadership through these various ways.

  6. Discuss ways that ethics might impact your future in business.

  7. Provide examples of businesses that have encountered ethical issues. How did you feel about the company after the issue became public?

Class Activities:

  1. As a group, research a company that has encountered ethical issues publicly. Provide a brief summary of the company, the issue faced, and how it impacted their business. Present your findings to the class.

  2. Prepare a brief oral presentation on a leader of your choice. Include visual aids that show the leader and the influential moments in their public lives. Provide information in your presentation about who the person is, include a brief biography, and explain some of the significant contributions this person made.

  3. Create a collage of leaders using pictures from the Internet to show the audience important leaders in our history. Briefly explain each leader and one significant contribution made.

  4. Read a book on leadership of your choice, then present a book report covering the key points from the book. Present this report to the class.
