The Funtacular
By the Philly Phanatic
On February 28, every 6th grade class is going to face off in a series of fun games. Each class has a different color. Mrs. Gilbert’s class is yellow, Mrs. Rehn’s class is green, Mrs. Englehart’s class is blue, and Mrs. Meehan’s class is red. For the kids, it is free to come play games, but if you are a parent that wants to watch or a friend, you have to pay $1. Points will be rewarded for the kids with the best spiritwear and for winning certain games.
About 3 Weeks Later
The Funtacular was about 3 weeks ago and it was just as fun as it could have been. Parents of some of the kids were selling food and all the kids were having a great time. The Gilbert Gang and the Meehan United Red Unicorns got off to great starts. There were many games including dodgeball, which seemed like the favorite. At the end the Englehart Empire pulled ahead to win it all. We can all admit that next year’s Funtacular will be hard to beat.

5th Grade Field Trip to the Revolutionary War Museum By: Midfielder
The 5th grade was very fun for many kids. Where did they go, you might ask. Great question! Us 5th graders went to the Revolutionary War Museum. Not only did we go there, but we also went to the independence hall and saw the liberty bell. But, I’ll only be talking about the Revolutionary War Museum. But, my friend Softball Girl will be telling you about that!
First, as we walked into a very big auditorium music began to play as a movie about George Washington’s tent, before his real tent was shown behind glass! Next, we split up into groups and went to go and see a model of someone made out of clay from back in the war. The person shown was the first man shot in the Boston Massacre who, people say, was the first man killed because of the color of his skin. Then, we got to read on the wall different peoples POV’s of the war. For example, we got to read a POV of a woman whose family was killed when she was a child and she had to run away. Lastly, before we had lunch, we had to see one last thing. The liberty tree. No, the whole thing was not the REAL liberty tree, but there was a tiny piece from the tree inside the middle of the tree.
5th Grade Field Trip to Independence hall
By: Softball Girl
First we got to see the place at independence hall where they would hold court meetings. We also got to see the place where the Declaration of Independence was signed. We got to see authentic tables and chairs hand crafted to look exactly like the ones from when the building was first built. Then we saw where people from all of the 13 colonies would meet and discuss business about the colonies.
Next we walked over across the street to the Liberty Bell. The classes had to walk through some security but once we got moving we saw a clip that had to do with segregation and how it is bad and we shouldn’t segregate people. We got to see clips of Martin Luther King Junior’s I have a dream speech. Finally we got to see the Liberty Bell and it was amazing. We saw where the crack was and how there are some other cracks because of how old it is. We got to walk around it and look up closely at it. I loved this year's field trip and I hope you liked hearing about it.
( In the photo of the liberty bell you can see where they tried to fix the crack with bolts but it just made it worse. You can also see Independence Hall in the background.)

6th Grade Hayride
By: Striker
Picture this, flashing lights, music, and a bunch of kids running around. Well this is what you might have seen if you went to the 6th grade hayride. As soon as you arrived you got either a yellow or blue wristband. Based on the color it would tell who you went on the hayride with since we were divided into two groups. Once everyone acquired their bands we ran off for about 30 minutes until they called the first group. While the first group enjoyed the ride we stayed back until it was finished. While we waited we listened to music and danced. When they got back we boarded the tractor and went to the corn maze. Everyone guided themselves around and made a lot of jokes while doing so. When it was time to leave we all gathered up and went back to the original spot. In all this event was very fun and memorable.

6th Grade Community Circles
By: Sunset Lover and Cupcake
When you get to 6th grade you start a program called Community Circles. In a community circle, everyone moves their chair to make a circle including students, teachers, and the person running the circle. This year, the staff members in charge of the circles are Miss Simonetti, Mr. Shiremen, and Ms. Novick.
Every circle your instructor makes a question and addresses it to the class. The students then proceed to answer the questions, but there’s a catch. You can’t speak unless you have the talking piece, which is a small, yellow lion. If you want to answer the question then you answer it while holding the lion but if not then you just pass it to the next person.
Sometimes, the questions can be more challenging than others.
In these circles, you get to see how your classmates respond and sometimes you can even learn a little bit about them. Your class almost turns into a tiny community.
After you finish your circle, your teacher will instruct you to go to google classroom for a reflection form. On the form, you answer questions like, did you participate in the circle? How do you feel about the question? And, our favorite, what are some question suggestions for an upcoming circle? Using those questions, they can go and use them in a nearby circle.
So to the 5th graders, and every else at Mansion, when you get to 6th grade you can look forward to these fun activities. Most people like these because it takes time off of school and learning.

6th Grade Hayride
By: Miss Swiftie & Cupcake
One of the 6th grade activities that happened in November is the 6th Grade Hayride. Although it was cold, everyone had a blast. We got to eat pizza, roast marshmallows, go in many corn mazes, and best of all…go on a hayride!
When everyone got there you had to check in and get a wristband. Your wristband said a time on it and that depended on which hayride you went on (there was 2). When you walked into the farm it was PITCH BLACK. The only thing you could see was the lights from the DJ. Everyone ran over and started dancing, especially when they played Taylor Swift. When the first tractor came kids with wristbands that said 6:30 ran over and found a seat. Then, they went to their destination, and the rest of the kids continued playing. If you were waiting to go on the hayride there were many activities to do. Such as, a small corn maze, playgrounds, fun games that the DJs set up and when you won you got to pick a prize. We played the game where you had to wrap the other in toilet paper, aka the mummy game.
When it was your turn to go on the hayride, there were two sections to pick from. Even the parents could join in on the fun and ride along the bumpy, scary trail. On the ride, there were plenty of decorations to make it spooky like Halloween. The decorations went from mysterious figures to scary, yet cute blowups. Once you arrived at the real destination everyone was like no way we have to do this, I don’t blame them the maze was HUGE. We almost lost a few people, but luckily everyone made it out alive. While we were in the corn maze, we stuck together because we were afraid of people jumping out at us. Kids were screaming and sprinting to get out. Finally, everyone made it out. The driver of the suspiciously large wagon, Bob, drove us back kinda safely. We almost fell over into a murky stream of water.
After the hayride was over, we ate delicious, cheesy pizza and roasted fluffy, gooey, and tasty smores. The pizza was sooo good that people were going in for thirds, some even fourths! The smores were also a big hit, but not as big as the pizza.
So if you're a 5th grader, be ready for the scary things next year. We're warning you. Also, have fun! Besties out!
Hatchet
By: Sunset Lover
The sixth graders just finished the book Hatchet. Hatchet was written by the famous Gary Paulsen. Gary Paulsen wrote a lot of books in his time but Hatchet was one of his best books. Hatchet is about a boy named Brian who is lost in the Canadian wilderness. Trying to survive for his life.
The Sixth grade bowling
By:Sunset Lover
The sixth graders got to go to their first activity bowling at Laurel Lanes. They had a blast going dowling and playing pool. They got dropped off then got their shoes and headed to the private room and they went dowling. Everyone met up with their friends and started. Some people started with the pool or they did bowling. People got drinks and then the pizza came and everyone graved a bit to eat. We soon finished eating and then everyone continued to bowl. Soon after the pizza the sundae bar came out and everyone rushed in line to get some ice cream. There were different types of flavors and different toppings. You would tell the lady that was scooping the ice cream what you wanted and then you got to pick out your toppings. People ate there ice cream and danced to the music. Before everyone left the chaperones took a big group photo of all of us. Then people started to wrap up there games and everyone's parents came and picked them up.
6th Grade Kickball Tournaments by The El Chez Chef
In the 6th grade classes of Meehan and Englehart, there are kickball tournaments. So there have been two tournaments, the first one was won by Meehan’s team, The Swifties. The Swifties won about 40 - 25. This was not an easy tournament, it lasted 6 days, and it wasn’t the exact score. The second tournament Englehart’s class, The Tater-Tots, won and this tournament was also a 6 days tournament and the score was roughly 34 - 28, much closer than the first. Finally there is a third tournament, it is on going, at the time of the making, the score is 6 - 0 Boys against the Girls.
Trip to Haviland ~ by: Miss Macaroon
We, the sixth graders, went on a trip to the little kids school, Haviland. We went on the trip because we made new bathroom passes for when the kindergarteners, first, and second graders go to the bathroom during lunch. Then we interviewed them to find out how many times they actually would use the restroom passes. The kids were all so sweet and we got a range of 1-3 times that they would use them. I don't know if anyone else enjoyed it, but I really enjoyed seeing and helping all of the little kids use the bathroom.
The 6th Grade Safety trip
By,Busy Bee
The trip for the 6th grade safeties was so much fun. I will give you a walk through what happened. The day started off at school at 6:45. After that we got on the bus and started driving. When we arrived we went into a house where they had a gift shop and a big mini diagram showing us what happened in the war. A video went with that too. After that we went to a park and had lunch. Then we picked up the tour guide. We got to go on the battlefield and see so many cool things.
After we finished the tour we went back to the hotel room to unpack. Then the bus picked us up to go to dinner at the college. When everyone was finished eating we went on a ghost tour. It was so fun and we caught two ghosts on camera. When that was finished we went back to the hotel to sleep. When we woke up we ate breakfast and drove to Hershey. We got into our groups and went to the Chocolate World. When we were done there we went into the park. We ate lunch there and went on so many wonderful rides. Now you know what happened on the safety trip.
Hot Wheelz ~ by: Sports Center
On February 22cnd Hot Wheelz skating rink held an event for the Mansion avenue 6th graders to skate and have fun. Each registered sixth grader got to get a pass that let you get a pair of skates, order a meal and a card for the arcade. The staff played music as the kids rolled around. Multiple events happened on the rink. One example would be when staff rolled a huge plushie dice while skaters picked a numbered area on the rink. Whatever number the dice landed on would be the area that got candy. The staff played a variety of music that carried the vibe through the night. Some of the most liked songs were Just Wanna Rock- Lil Uzi Vert and Boys a Liar pt 2-Pink Panthress, Ice Spice. Skaters were given the choice between inline and quad skates. A meal ticket would get you a slice of pizza and a fountain drink of your choice. The event went on for an approximate 2 hours. At the 90 minute mark a limbo set was brought out for some extra fun, up next was a nice dance party that everyone enjoyed. Overall the event was a very fun and great time made possible by the wonderful six grade committee with a special thanks to the staff at Hot Wheelz in Cherry Hill.

6th Grade Community Circles
Recently the 6th graders have started a new program called community circles. 2 times a week,as a class we circle up and answer a different question each time we meet. This program will help to build trust in each other,by following the rules and guidelines, such as “what is said in the circle, stays in the circle”. So far we have met 3 times and answered the following questions: 1.What zone are you in? 2.If you could be any superhero, who would you be? 3.If you could own any animal what animal would it be? After every circle we fill out a form to see if we enjoyed the question or if we have any further questions about it.
The 6th grade hayride
By: Softball.Lover
This November the 6th grade had their annual Hayride. All the 6th graders had so much fun. It was cold, but we did many fun activities. First everyone arrived and we checked in. We were separated into two groups, orange and yellow. We wore wristbands to know which group we were in. This was for the corn maze. We had to travel to the corn maze on a tractor, it took awhile to get there but it was fun. I was shivering though because it was really cold.
When we arrived we got out of the tractor and got into smaller groups and went into the corn maze. It was scary, but there were scarecrows all over the place dressed up as characters like Batman, Spongebob, Sherk, and more. It was difficult but after a while everybody finished. Now since everybody was done we got on the tracker and left. We got to the main area. There was a stage there, a fire, and a little small corn maze for when you're waiting. We all saw the DJ up on the stage with her beat bow and other stuff. We all heard the DJ say
‘’Game Time’’
We were going to play the mummy game. We all got into partners with 2, and we got a roll of toilet paper. We then heard the Dj announcement the rules. When she was done she counted down to 3. Once we started it was hectic, people spinning, and people yelling. In the end the people who were raped were really rapped!
Next, it was time to eat. We got pizza, and were able to roast marshmallows. We also played more games like scavenger hunt, hula hoop matchup, dance battle. When we all left it was 10:00 o'clock at night. In all, it was such a fun night.
Fifth grade social studies
By: Star Boy
Attention all the 3rd and 4th graders out there, you might want to listen if you're interested in history. Are you fascinated by the French and Indian war? Or are you interested in the vikings or the explorers who tried to reach the Indies? Either way if you are excited about any of these topics, you are going to really enjoy fifth grade social studies.
First off, if you don’t know who the vikings are, they are a group of men who are strong, fierce, and big. Did you know the vikings actually didn’t wear horned helmets? People today made up a myth about the vikings wearing horned helmets because they were shown to wear them in an old movie. They were originally from Norway, a cold country where a lot of the time, they skied. They would also take boat’s called longships and take control of areas like Europe and beyond. If you don’t enjoy the vikings then maybe you’ll enjoy some different way’s explorers reached the Indies.
Marco Polo, an Italian explorer from Venice, tried to reach the Indies to find resources such as silks, gold and other valuable resources. The Indies include countries such as India, Indonesia, and Java. Some explorers tried to reach the Indies by going around Africa in ships. One explorer named Maggelan tried to reach the Indies by going around the world! If you're also interested in wars, In the 5th grade you learn about the French and Indian war.
The French and Indian War began in 1754 and ended in 1763. It was a conflict between Great Britain and France for land in America. Not only was George Washington the first president but he ended the war when the French were quickly losing territory and in retreat. The war provided Great Britain land in North America. These are some of the interesting facts that you need to know about 5th grade social studies. I hope all you 3rd and 4th graders get excited about it!

6th Grade Egypt
By Animation Freak
If you go to MAS and stay till 6th grade you will do the Egypt project. Right now I am in 5th grade so I don’t know alot about it but I know someone who does and goes by R.M.
Me: “Hello R.M what do you think about the Egypt project?”
R.M:” I think our Ancient Egypt unit is very interesting and exciting.”
Me: “What is one thing you are excited to learn in this unit?”
R.M: “I think that our hieroglyphics part of the unit was interesting. We got to write a message in hieroglyphics and our classmates got to decipher them. We are also currently making a profile for an Egyptian god or goddess, including how they look, their name in hieroglyphics, and much more.”
Me: “What other things did you learn about in this unit?”
R.M: “First, we started off with a map quiz on some of the geography features of Ancient Egypt. We later did a reading investigation on Egypt and learned about their hierarchy, and some gods. At one point, we got to draw a scene from one of the Ancient Egyptian stories depicting the beginning of gods and goddesses. After this, we transitioned into our hieroglyphics unit, and a few days ago we learned about the mummification process the Ancient Egyptians performed, both physical and spiritual.”
3rd Grade Is On A Roll
By : Burds
Many people in older grades get to go down memory lane when recalling their first year at mansion. After all, 3rd grade is such an interesting year! Currently, 3rd graders are learning about area in math, and also sharpening their skills on Reflex. They are also currently in Social Studies, for they are using maps to learn about natural features, resources, and how to locate places. In the near future they will be transitioning back to Science to learn about different forces. During ELA, the 3rd grade have been reading and writing pair texts and just started to practice RACE responses, which everyone in the school uses to answer certain questions. We hope that the 3rd graders will have a great year and keep learning!
4th Grade 4 Real!
By Crazy cat person
Mrs. McCurdy’s 4th grade class is quite interesting! The students of this class are currently learning about electricity, they’re writing up an astonishing essay about Thomas Edison and doing experiments with Snap Circuits. I own Snap Circuits myself and I’ve gotta tell you, they’re really fun and cool stuff! However, this as well as many other 4th grade activities is different due to Covid. When I was in 4th grade, we could work in groups of two, but now, everyone’s independent! Additionally, students now have to sit in rows, groups are smaller, the amount of general experiments has been reduced, more assignments are on chromebooks, and more! 4th Grade has changed a lot, but there’s still a lot to do fellow 4th graders, so keep looking for the positives!
By: Crazy Cat Person
Sixth Grade does seem a bit scary, heck, it’s the last grade level to go through before heading to the high school! But it’s really not bad, in fact, it’s one of my favorite grades of all time! Math is about the same difficulty as fifth grade, and so is ELA. Sixth grade ELA focuses more on nonfiction writing than fiction though, but that’s the only big difference. In math, we move into a new lesson frequently, but none of them are insanely difficult. In ELA, we learned about September eleventh in the beginning of the year, then moved on to reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Hatchet is one of my favorite books, Gary packed that book with tons of detail! I don’t want to give too much of the book away, but I can guarantee you’ll love it! We also started having grammar lessons every day, and did a few nonfiction pieces too. Usually, every year, I’m super excited for the last day of school, but not this year. No, Mansion is a great school, students are awarded with paws to spend in the ROAR Store, the teachers are great and, the specials are fun. I’m going to miss this school, I truly am.
6th Grade Scavenger Hunt!
By: A.C.
Because of covid and all its restrictions 6th grade wasn't able to do as many activities but they were able to add in the Scavenger Hunt! The Scavenger Hunt is for the 6th grade only. It was held at the Rec Center in town. It started at 7 to 8:00 to 8:30 ish. Students had to get into groups and walk around town to take pictures of the desired objects. They will get a list of things and have to find them. Usually they would have a parent drive them around , but this year they have to walk so that they aren't all in a car. 6th grade also has to wear their new 2021 6th grade shirts they got! That's one of the activities they have so look out for more!
Fun Social Studies
In social studies, we do lots of fun projects. But for half the year we do science, and the other half of the year we do social studies. But let’s get back on topic. The whole 5th grade goes to my class to do social studies, but Mrs. McFetridges class. We learn about the civil war and the people involved. We also learn about the other wars. For instance, we did a project on the 13 colonies. We moved around the room and worked with our friends. We also did a project on the missing colonies , Roanoke Island. Nobody knows how it went missing and there are theories. This is why I love social studies.
The Dance
By: The Knight
Hey everyone! The Knight here, here to talk about the exciting dance going on on the 3rd of June! Unfortunately this is only for us 6th graders, but it’s still bound to be fun! I will be wearing something nice for the dance! Unfortunately I will not be accompanied by anyone but I’ll tough it out! Maybe even dance with a few people!
This fantastic dance will be held at the Kove and will be for the 6th grade on Thursday, June 3rd, from 6-9 p.m. Hopefully many people will attend! Food and drinks will be provided and it will most likely be (hopefully) packed! Hope to see all of you 6th graders there!

The 6th grade classes are currently reading a novel called A Long Walk to Water. This novel focuses on characters named Nya and Salva. The two characters are in a place called Sudan. Through the book we see how Nya and Salva are struggling to survive, yet at the same time they are going through it in two different ways.
Salva, an 11 year old boy was at school one day when their village was attacked due to the war. Because Salva was at school it caused him to run away from his friends and family and leave them all behind. Salva then has to travel by himself without knowing where his family is until an unexpected family member arrives.
Then there's Nya, also 11 years old. Nya has it a bit easier because right now Nya’s job is to get water for her family. She also has a sister named Akeer.
Both characters struggle through the book but they always find a way to keep pushing through.

By: R. Winner
In 6th grade math we are starting to do a project about deep diving creatures. The project will go on for 2 two weeks. At the end of the project we have to do a powerpoint, drawing or essay. In ELA all the classes are approaching the end of the Novel A Long Walk to Water about the Sudanese civil war and the water crisis going on.
Fifth Grade
By: A. H.
Currently fifth grade is working on many interesting things. One of the things fifth grade is working on is a research project about invasive species. Invasive species are a species that can bring harm to the environment they are in. They can even be capable of causing extinction and altering habitats.
They are also learning about specific species like the Burmese Python, the Lionfish, the Lanternfly, and the Feral Hogs. Then they are writing about their animal in each different text structure. Later, their text structure paragraphs will be turned into a long research paper.
6th Grade Writing
By: R.Winner
Just recently the 6th graders have finished their debate writing in ELA and as a sixth grader it got heated. In Mrs. Meehan’s class we debated over if video games should be a sport because of the scope article “Should Video Games Be A Sport?” We wrote short essays about our views on the topic, We also did the same with the topic “Should We Get Rid Of Paper Money.” 6th grade used Ethos, Pathos, and Logos to get our points across about the topic. I also know that the rest of 6th grade was learning the same thing.
Even though this year has been very different from the past years,5th grade has continued to work on many exciting projects throughout the pandemic. Though hybrid learning was slightly cancelled in November, it came back full speed in January. 5th grade has been bustling with new projects and lessons, and our heads have been quickly filling up with knowledge. Many projects have been helping us have fun throughout the year. Both Mrs. Rosenberg’s class, and Mrs. McFetridges class, and possibly some others too have created a Tiger Rising movie project. Tiger Rising was one of the first novels 5th graders read this year, an emotional story that this year is coming to theaters soon. Through this project, our fellow classmates have practiced theirs summarizing skills, by giving a movie teaser, a rating, actors, and making a poster to fit in with their teaser and rating. The second project that has been up this year also goes to Mrs. Rosenburg, and possibly others, which is currently in progress, as she states, “...putting together a tree of Greek & Latin roots to help with our vocabulary.” Vocabulary is always a good thing to know, and learning Greek and Latin roots while you're at it. 5th graders also researched African American inventors, athletes, scholars, etc. to celebrate Black History month.
Mr. Bentley and Mrs. Horan's 4th Grade Class
By: B.K.
There are lots of things that Mr. Bentley and Mrs. Horan’s class have been working on. So far this year, Mr.Bentley and Mrs.Horan’s class have been working on essays about electricity and about volcanoes. In order to keep remote learning fun and interesting, they have dance parties whenever their class is held. In their math class they have been working on division. According to Mr.Bentley, their students would much rather be in person than online.
What’s Going On In 4th Grade?
By ThePoet
4th grade is a busy, fun year, where you learn many new things and have adventures in your own classroom. Currently the 4th grade is learning about the New Jersey regions, which include the Atlantic Coastal Plain, Piedmont, Highlands, and Ridge & Valley. They are also reading Nicky Fifth's Garden State Adventure by Lisa Willever, a book that takes you on a journey throughout our home state. I’m sure 4th grade will be busy with their new fun activities!
Interview with a 5th Grader
By: THE KNIGHT
One student who is in Mrs. Englehart’s class in person says that for Homeroom they are currently watching Mystery Science videos and doing interesting experiments with baking soda and vinegar. As for their ELA they’re reading some debate articles, some from Scholastic, some not, and taking sides. In Math, they’ve been learning about volume, area, length, width, and formulas.
Personally, I think math is really fun. We get to learn about different stuff every day, but sometimes it can be a little tricky. Like now, we are multiplying and dividing measurements and decimals measurements by powers of ten. I know that sounds a little easy if you are in fifth grade, but trust me, it is a lot harder than it looks. There are like four steps. First you have to see if you are going large to small or small to large. Next, you have to see if you're going to multiply or divide. Then, you have to figure out what measurement it is that you're doing. Last but not least, you finally get to convert. I'm sure if someone told you that, your eyes would be wide and your brain would be about to explode. It's too much info for one kid's brain. So yeah, now you can see not only is fifth grade math hard, but it is also way too much for one person to handle by themselves.
