Proper dress is an important part of the school program and relates to the maintenance of proper school order. The basis of judgment for acceptability of dress shall be safety and health.
Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities, including physical education, science labs (7-12), industrial arts classes (7-12), and other activities where unique hazards exist. Specialized courses may require specialized attire, such as sports uniforms or safety gear.
All clothes must completely cover private body parts. Sheer or see-through clothing must not reveal private body parts. Undergarments, exposed or worn as outside attire, are not permitted. Blankets are not clothing and therefore are not permitted. Footwear must be worn throughout the school day and during school events.
Clothing imprinted with obscene vocabulary, sexual connotations, gang references, racist comments or otherwise inflammatory language are not permitted. Clothing or accessories made of ammunition (bullets, shell casing, etc.) are not permitted.
Hats, hoodies (worn up), or any head covering that obstructs any part of the face are not permitted to be worn. Sunglasses may not be worn in the building unless they are medically necessary.
Administration reserves the right to make the final decision regarding the appropriateness of any type of clothing or accessory, and any infractions will follow the Code of Conduct regarding dress code.
The school authorities reserve the right to exclude any student until appropriately attired and may modify the dress code for special events (i.e. Spirit Week). Students who violate the dress code will be subject to disciplinary action.
Violations of the dress code will be considered minor infractions and result in the following measures:
FIRST REFERRAL: The opportunity to change clothes; Administrative warning or Lunch Detention (LD). The Principal's office or Nurse's office has a supply of T-Shirts that must be returned after use.
SECOND REFERRAL: LD; change of clothing
THIRD REFERRAL: After-School detention (AS); change of clothing
SUBSEQUENT REFERRALS: Saturday detentions (SS) or Up to three days In School Suspension (ISS)
