At Kemnay PS, we want to get it right for every child and we always aim to do better and be better, to ensure our school really is a place 'where we are all PART of our school family' and children feel safe, supported and nurtured. With this in mind, we have made a commitment to raising awareness of neurodiversity amongst our children, our staff, our parents and carers and the wider school community.
Neurodiversity encompasses the varied ways in which we think, behave, communicate, and perceive information. Each individual possesses unique attributes, encompassing both strengths and challenges. These differences may stem from conditions like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Autism, Dyscalculia, Developmental Coordination Disorder/Dyspraxia, and Developmental Language Disorder. Neurodiversity extends beyond any single condition, highlighting the richness of human experience.
Navigating an autism diagnosis for a child or family member can be overwhelming. Conflicting information about autism is common, making it challenging to discern truth from misinformation.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a condition that affects people's behaviour. People with ADHD can seem restless, may have trouble concentrating and may act on impulse.
Symptoms of ADHD tend to be noticed at an early age and may become more noticeable when a child's circumstances change, such as when they start school.
Most cases are diagnosed when children are under 12 years old, but sometimes it's diagnosed later in childhood.
The symptoms of ADHD may improve with age, but many adults who were diagnosed with the condition at a young age continue to experience challenges.
Individuals diagnosed with ADHD may encounter supplementary obstacles, such as sleep disturbances and anxiety disorders. At Kemnay Primary School, we embrace the beneficial attributes linked with ADHD, such as creativity, remarkable problem-solving abilities, and boundless energy.
At Kemnay Primary School, our staff are actively engaged in a Dyslexia Journey aimed at cultivating dyslexia-friendly learning environments and methodologies within our classrooms.
Like any voyage, breaking it down into stages enhances manageability, achievability, and adds a touch of enjoyment! Throughout this expedition, our staff have pinpointed strategies and resources beneficial for our learners. Whether it involves installing Text-Help software on a laptop for a student or integrating supportive writing techniques like using coloured paper or accessing specialised dictionaries available at Kemnay PS, we're dedicated to enhancing learning experiences.
Through collaborative efforts and a step-by-step approach, our staff are diligently working towards fostering an even more inclusive environment to support all learners, especially those grappling with persistent literacy challenges.
