Report

Having investigated an emerging technology, you are now going to work in small groups to create an deliver a short report on an it.

You will be working in groups of two to three people. Your teacher will tell you how you are going to form your groups.

It may be that the members of your group chose different technologies during your investigation. If that is the case the first thing your group will have to do is to decide which emerging technology to report upon.

Your group is to create a presentation reporting on your chosen emerging technology. Your presentation should be at least five slides.

Show your understanding of emerging technologies by including:

• A description of what the technology is

• An explanation of how the technology will improve peoples live - remember to think about the knock on effects of this technology becoming widely available

• Disadvantages and problems that might arise from this technology being used commonly

• A description of some of the existing computer technologies that this new technology is built upon - for example, driverless cars need digital cameras and other sensors to detect the road

• How far developed the technology is. Is it still theoretical - just an idea? Maybe prototypes have been built to test the technology. Some technologies have almost been fully developed and are ready to be diffused into the marketplace.

• Do you think we will see the technology in shops soon?

• Any moral or ethical issues with using the technology, both good and bad. For example, is it wrong or right to use unmanned drones to kill people in a war?

• Any other information you think is interesting or relevant about the technology

Remember to include appropriate pictures in your presentation, and to format it appropriately.

Your whole group will need to be knowledgeable about your chosen emerging technology. You will also need to be able to answer questions about your chosen technology too. Your teacher will demonstrate how to use the notes page feature of PowerPoint to help you with this.

Remember to put the slides into your own words

After your presentation is complete you will be given the chance to report on it to the rest of the class. Whilst giving the presentation:

• You will need to say more than merely read the contents of the slide

• Every member of your group must contribute by speaking about the technology

• You will be asked questions about the technology by your teacher and the rest of the class after you have finished.
