Pupil Expectations

Classroom Expectations

It is expected that all Photography pupils attend all classes to meet the required hours for SQA coursework. In case of absence, it is important for the pupil to catch up on any missed work by communicating with their class teacher or through Google Classroom.

Photography students should prioritize completing all assignments on time and meeting deadlines. Regular communication with the class teacher is key; students should seek clarification whenever needed. Furthermore, it is crucial to consistently improve and refine your practical photographic skills.

For Higher Photography, the majority of photoshoots are completed within pupils own time. It is expected that pupils research, plan and photograph within the required timeline in order to ensure deadlines are met successfully.

Revision of Classroom Learning

All classes will have access to classroom learning via Google Classroom. Revision materials are available online or as paper copies when required. Supported study sessions run in the Art Department. Pupils are expected to attend regularly to achieve a good pass and complete any outstanding work. The department encourages pupils to use this session if they have any outstanding portfolio work or homework that needs to be completed.

Homework

Homework will be set for a weekly submission via Google Classroom, paper copies will be distributed where required. Pupils are expected to complete 1 hour of homework per week. Homework questions are based on course content following the SQA exam question structure.

Exam Preparation

There is no examination for NPA Photography but for Higher Photography, to achieve a Course Award the pupil must also complete the Course Assessment. This is a portfolio of photoshoots and 8 final photographs which is submitted to the SQA in May and assessed by an external examiner. Pupils will also sit a written exam during the SQA exam diet. It is important that pupils stay up to date with all critical studies to ensure they are prepared for their examinations next year.
