“The residency program is incredibly supportive of wellness. Leadership is intentional about creating a schedule that allows for residents to both immerse themselves in rotations and to have time to take care of ourselves. In doing so, I have the bandwidth to be fully present to learn on wards. The program creates a safe space to practice medicine and upholds the commitment to an encouraging learning environment. My peers are thoughtful, supportive, and uplift one another.”
— E.N., MD, PGY-2
“Our program is supportive of personal needs as they arise. Our program is able to offer balance between the competing aspects of being a resident, including: academic medicine, teaching and learning, variety of patients and specialty elective opportunities, and work-life balance."
Favorite thing about the program:
"The People!! Everyday, forever, this will be my answer. … The people of our program care, and it shows.”
— T. B., MD, PGY-3
"We have on-site counsellors and wellness coordinators here to support us for free at all times. They also meet with us after hard months such as ICU, to check in on us. We are able to leave wards as early as noon on weekends if work is done and patients are safe. This makes a huge difference for wellness on wards, and gives me time for myself. The attendings in this program really go the extra mile to teach every day, and they made me feel welcome and respected as an equal."
— K. F., DO, PGY-2

Early in the pandemic, while PPE was in short supply and there were a lot of unknowns, we created a system that enabled residents in both the inpatient and outpatient settings to work remotely from home, while attendings were at the bedside
Once residents were preparing to re-enter the clinical environment, we prepared written guidelines and a video on how to stay safe and minimize contamination between clinical work exposures and home.
Free prioritized PCR testing scheduled via a dedicated hotline for employees (as often as needed/desired)
Faculty support for outreach to the Navajo nation led by our residents

Community Service: Collecting donations for the Navajo Nation during COVID-19
"Wellness is a discipline that takes time to figure out. This space gives residents the option and opportunity to work on their self-care skills. The more well the physician, the better care and assistance they provide patients."
- Dr. Daniel Drane, Director of Wellness
