Our combination of formal and informal mentorship helps our residents achieve their goals. The faculty have strengths and specialties that match your needs. Whether residents are seeking guidance for a specific research project, a high value idea, career planning, finding harmony with life outside of medicine, or anything else, we are invested in your growth and development!
Associate Program Director Advisor: Your APD advisor is part of the Clinical Competency Committee, which tracks your overall progress during residency. They will meet with you at least twice a year to discuss your overall progress as part of your semi-annual performance review. They will help you to know how you are performing on all of the residency milestones, the next steps for being your best, and ensure you are on the correct trajectory towards graduation.
Subspecialty & Other Career Mentors:
For those considering future fellowship training, we encourage you to do a rotation in that field early in your training and/or attend our annual subspecialty fellowship panel in the fall. Through these contacts, you will begin to explore research ideas and create relationships with subspecialty mentors. They will help mentor you on your projects and path to fellowship.
Residents interested in hospital medicine or primary care also have dedicated and enthusiastic faculty who will serve as career mentors.
BETTER Project Mentors: During their first BETTER week, residents are paired with faculty mentors with similar interests. They receive ongoing mentorship in 2 -4 structured meetings per year (and more as needed) to continue to progress on the resident's quality improvement or research project. This guides residents to meet their scholarly activity goals during residency.
Program Director Semi-Annual Meetings: These serve as a chance to see how you are doing broadly, discuss your goals and aspirations, investigate what opportunities will help you to reach your goals, and discuss your experience as a resident.
Multiple opportunities:
Personalized schedule for your clinical experiences, based on your intended career path
Programs of Individualized Education (PIE) Certificates (described in more detail here and here)
Mentoring tailored to your interests & needs
Research and QI opportunities tailored to your interests
PD & APDs provide mock interviews and coaching for fellowship interviews
