Skills, Habits, and Mindsets promote positive school culture and climate through school-wide behavioral norms and expectations. This supports students in more positive classroom behavior and helps create an improved attitude about school, self and others. Goal 4 helps honor the whole-child and is embedded within each layer of instruction.
The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) defines skills, habits, and mindsets as:
“We define skills, Habits, and Mindsets as an integral part of education and human development. It is the process through which all young people and adults acquire the skills, habits, and mindsets most aligned to life success: perserverance, self-regulation, self-efficay, and social awareness.
S.H.& M advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation. S.H.&M can help address various forms of inequity and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools and contribute to safe, healthy, and just communities.”
