Tuition and fees refer to the cost of taking courses at Appalachian State. Tuition is the cost per class. Fees are applied for Health Services, Student Government, Rental Textbooks, etc. As an ACCESS students these costs are paid for you.
ACCESS Summer funds are NOT guaranteed. It is based on what money is leftover at the end of the year.
If you are planning to take summer classes at ASU, please read all of this. I know it's a lot but it is all really important.
ACCESS Summer funds are NOT guaranteed. It is based on what money is leftover at the end of the year. We prioritize students graduating, studying abroad, and doing an internship first and then the rest of the funds are awarded based on class need and registration date.
ACCESS funds pay for Tuition/Fees at ASU ONLY
ACCESS students must take a minimum of 3 credit hours and must be registered for at least one class in the 1st session to be eligible for ACCESS summer funding
Books/required items are not covered by ACCESS in the summer, we just pay tuition and fees.
You must stay registered for at least 3 credit hours and at least one of your courses has to be in the first summer session to stay eligible for these funds.
In order to qualify for summer Pell grant funds and other state grants that may be available, you must take a minimum of 6 credit hours. If you register for less than 6 hours, these funds will not be available to you. The nice thing about summer Pell grants is that as long as ACCESS has the funds to cover your summer classes you get this money in addition to those funds.
Be aware of the last day to add/drop (found here), and make sure you make any changes you need before then so you don't get charged but please contact your advisor before you change anything.
All ACCESS funds are disbursed during Summer Session I. Tuition/fees charged for Summer I classes will be paid with your ACCESS scholarship, and then any remaining aid for the entire summer will be refunded to you (with the exception of Pell grant which is disbursed each session based on registered hours for that summer session)
IMPORTANT: If you are registered for Summer II, then you are responsible for making sure your summer II charges have been paid in full by the due date listed on your bill. In many cases, students will have a Summer II Pell disbursement that will cover some or all of their Summer II charges, and sometimes may still generate a refund, but not always. If you have a balance, you are responsible for paying that balance with the refund you got from the first summer. If you have questions about the account, contact Beth or Claire.
VERY IMPORTANT: Dropping, withdrawing, failing classes in summer - Summer aid is tricky, and your aid can be (negatively) affected by any of these actions/issues. Please contact your advisor to discuss how your summer aid could be affected BEFORE you drop a class, withdraw from a class or summer session, or if you are not passing a class.
If you have been awarded aid for summer, please pay attention to your account!
