Financial literacy is an on-going endeavor and will shift as your financial situation shifts. Our goal is to give you resources and tools to use now that can be applied to personal money management in the future. Not all of these modules will relate to you now, for instance buying a house. But if you're interested in one day owning a home, it may be wise to start thinking about the process and saving now so you have an idea of your money goals. We have plans for nearly everything else in our lives - time, career, family. Planning how to smartly manage your money can have a lifetime of benefits.
Better Money Habits by Bank of America is an excellent source to learn about the basics of money management. From credit cards to keeping your information safe, they offer quick videos and articles to help you plan and manage your finances. Bonus: if you work on the same computer each time, BMH will remember what you've completed and other topics you may be interested in!
You may be familiar with Khan Academy for subject tutoring but did you know they also provide financial literacy education? The Financial Literacy modules are great for diving into the topic you are curious about. The Paying for College section is especially valuable. Some of the videos crossover with Better Money Habits so you may find one platform that you prefer and work through it. Possible con of Khan (see what I did there?): you do need to sign in/create a login to use Khan Academy. We recommend using your @appstate.edu email. Disclaimer: I personally use NerdWallet a lot so it is linked a lot below. I am not sure if it is the best website but I have found it to be extremely helpful as a starting place and then I do more research on additional websites to fact check and make sure I am well informed on whatever I am doing. I use Khan Academy and Youtube to dive deeper into specific topics or to learn reviews on credit cards, budgeting apps, etc.
Here are some helpful resources about Credit:
Khan Academy has lessons on credit.
If you decide to get a credit card, be careful and use it responsibly which means paying off the balance every month!
