The free store and mountaineer food hub are available for any student on campus who needs it. The free store has a variety of items such as School Supplies, Winter Gear, Outdoor Gear, First Aid Supplies, Interview Clothing, and more. The food resource hub has a variety of food items and personal care items. They also manage all the food pantries across campus, including the one in 214 DDD.
The Office of the Dean of Students is here to offer support and resources for students as they navigate the many paths on their journey as a Mountaineer. They promote educational and developmental opportunities for student growth and self-responsibility through the many services they offer. They do case management, provide support to off campus students, and provide services for parents and families. They also run student contact, the student legal clinic, and student veteran services.
AppCares is a website and app that has helpful information about safety and has resources both on and off campus for a variety of areas.
RAVE Guardian is an App that you can set a Safety Timer, which will notify people you trust to check in on you if you are alone or in an unfamiliar place.
Refer any student with health concerns to Health Services. They offer a variety of types of medical services.
University Recreation, or UREC, encompasses Outdoor Programs, Club Sports, Intramural Sports, Fitness, and Aquatics. They offer a variety of services from equipment rental for outdoor adventures to group fitness classes at one of the on-campus fitness centers.
Mountaineer Safe Walk service is to provide a safety escort service for students during the evening hours. The service area is strictly limited to university properties only (parking lots, residence halls and academic buildings), and is designed specifically to provide assistance to students who may feel uncomfortable walking alone after dark.
The Counseling and Psychological Services Center provide education, prevention, remediation, and crisis management services to help students with personal difficulties. They provide individual and group counseling services, 24-hour crisis management, psychological assessment, and outreach. They fill up quick so the earlier, the better!
Wellness and prevention services "serve all students through the promotion of healthy behaviors, risk behavior modification services, and advocacy for campus-wide health policies which facilitate student success and holistic well-being. They offer services promoting health awareness and active lifestyles while taking a holistic approach to wellness, encompassing the following eight dimensions: Emotional, Environmental, Financial, Intellectual, Occupational, Physical, Social, and Spiritual." In addition, they offer support on topics such as nutrition, sexual health, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, stress, and sleep. They offer both individual and group services, such as individual therapy, nutrition assessments, and Koru mindfulness workshops for students.
The library has a variety of resources for students. In addition to finding books and journal articles, students can sign up for a RAP session- which allows a student to work with a librarian on research. This is great for students who have no research experience or those stuck with their current research. The library also has group study rooms for students to meet with groups. Students can also check out technology if they need something specific for a class. The library offers a variety of other services in addition to the ones above.
IT is a great resource if a students laptop or tablet breaks, they are having issues with a technology on campus, or they are unable to log into a certain platform!
The student learning center offers academic coaching, drop in support, workshops, academic courses, and has a variety of resources and strategies to help students with notetaking, time management, test taking, etc. Tutoring and the Writing Center also are part of the student learning center!
The tutoring center provides a variety of types of tutoring to students. They have Small Group Tutoring, LEAD tutoring, and Learning Labs for a variety of classes. ACCESS/SSS students get priority tutoring. If they are unable to find a tutor for a specific class, have them contact their advisor.
University Writing Center "is a free resource available to all Appalachian State University students and faculty as well as members of the Boone community". They have consultants that can work with students one-on-one to assist with any aspect of the writing process. They are able to provide support with writing at all stages and in any subject. Great resource for students stuck with getting started or who just need some additional support.
Our students work with OIP mainly when they are interested in studying abroad. OIP can provide support in helping students in the process of going abroad by supporting them in finding a program, applying to go, and finding scholarships.
Career Development Center "serves all students and alumni pursuing various future professional endeavors. Our services include resume reviews, career coaching, job and internship search assistance, and other tools to achieve life and professional success". They are a great resource for students in the exploration stage of picking a major. They are also a great resource for students looking for jobs or wanting to work towards career goals.
Engage "is a tool for student engagement by making it easier to navigate leadership and involvement opportunities both inside and outside the classroom". It is a great place to find clubs or other events on campus to get involved with.
The Office of Community-Engaged Leadership (CEL) engages Appalachian State University students in academic, experiential, and community-oriented programs that enhance their capacity to serve and lead in socially-responsible ways for the benefit of their local and global communities.
Appalachian Popular Programming Society (APPS) serves as the primary student programming board at App State and is responsible for planning diverse, quality events for the entire community.
The Student Government Association is comprised of undergraduate students that serve the student body. They are a governing body that exists to constantly improve the University by including student input on ALL changes and issues that impact the lives of students.
Appalachian and the Community Together (ACT) provides service experiences as opportunities to connect and engage with others to build authentic relationships, to stimulate critical thinking and skill building, and to recognize individual impact and responsibility within our local and global community.
Housing and Residence Life offer opportunities to be involved with Hall Council and floor programs.
Student employment "assists students in obtaining part-time job opportunities on and off campus through the Federal Work Study Program and Student Temporary Work Program".
Nationally Competitive Scholarships "works with the Appalachian community to recruit and support students and recent alumni for nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships. This is achieved with outreach, mentorship, and advising throughout the entire application and selection process". A lot of students work with them for study abroad scholarships, specifically the Gillman.
Handshake is the platform students can find work study, on campus jobs, and off campus jobs and internships.
Financial Aid is here to help students navigate grants, FASFA, scholarships, etc. They also have financial literacy advice.
