First Year Orientation (FYO) is a week-long introduction that helps you prepare for the upcoming school year. It's a great opportunity to make new friends, develop new skills, and reach your full potential. In addition, cadets who attend FYO tend to have a stronger appreciation for JROTC and our exciting activities. This is because they better understand the program and what it offers.
At FYO, we instill dedication, drill proficiency, leadership skills, and the three core values of AFJROTC. Our program offers a hands-on experience that mirrors the corps' activities, greatly enhancing your performance and providing a competitive edge over fellow cadets. Whether you aspire to excel in military careers or seek to develop invaluable life skills, our thoughtfully designed event prepares you for success in both endeavors.

"The best part about FYO is how you’re put ahead of your fellow cadet before school starts. It helps you in the long run with marching, because once school starts TA’s dont usually go too in depth on how to do specific things. It helps you to make connections with your upperclassmen and fellow cadets as well as helps you build confidence in your marching abilities. Not only does it help with all of these things, it’s also extremely fun!!! From the way the CTO/CTA’s teach things, to group time, to bearing breakers and wayyy more. I’d go every summer if i could"

"It was such a fun way to bond and socialize with the upperclassmen. Going into that week of FYO, I was very scared of the upperclassmen. However, the more I socialized, the less nervous I became, and the closer I got with everyone. Now that I have completed one year of JROTC, I wish I could experience FYO again as a first-year.
I still remember my first experience with JROTC. It was during the First Year Orientation, which was a big help as I transitioned into high school. Despite the scorching heat, it was one of the best experiences I had in the corps. During FYO, I learned about the corps' activities, which helped me a lot as a newcomer to JROTC. Recalling my first year, one of my favorite memories from FYO was when the upperclassmen attacked us with water balloons and when we had a little drill competition. The week of FYO helped me overcome my nervousness and bond with everyone. Now that I've completed one year of JROTC, I wish I could experience FYO again as a first-year."
