While the STEM program at Central Cabarrus High School functions as a school-within-a-school magnet program, throughout the past few years, the tenets of STEM education have become ingrained within the culture of the entire school and community. As the STEM program has grown to include over 380 students within Central Cabarrus High School (approximately 20% of the total school population), the core principles and practices have gradually become part of the school’s identity and philosophy.
Our STEM Education Plan strategically emphasizes the following:
cross-curricular connection
collaborative problem solving
integration of the design cycle
community connections
The STEM program has become a celebrated and prided facet of the Central Cabarrus community. Quarterly design challenges have become a district-wide practice, incorporating K-12 students and linking STEM schools throughout Cabarrus County. In addition, with the growth and success of the STEM program, a variety of extracurricular opportunities (including clubs such as Robotics, Technology Student Association, Agri-Coders, National Technical Honors Society, etc.) have flourished. These extracurricular activities provide students of varied backgrounds, both STEM and non-STEM, with the opportunity to explore STEM-related fields and content. In addition, the STEM program has fostered strong community bonds, including partnerships with local industry and post-secondary educational institutions. These connections benefit the school and community at large.
