Literature Circle Books

Refugee

I chose to start  semester 2 by reading Refugee by Alan Gratz, one of our literature circle books. I chose to start with Refugee, because  I read chapter one, and it hooked me.  Also, it was the thickest book I could read.

Farewell to Manzanar

After finishing Refugee, I wanted to read Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Watatsuki Houston and James D. Houston.  This was my second book choice, and I wanted to read this one. My goal is to read at least 4 lit books this semester

A Long Walk to Water

Instead of reading this at school, I read it on my kindle at home. it has two charachters: Nya and Salva.

Shooting Kabul

My third lit circle book is Shooting Kabul by N. H. Senzai. I chose this book because, after reading the first chapter, I just really wanted to read it as my third choice.

I am writing out of my notebook about Refugee-my multiple perspectives writing(M1). Refugee by Alan Gratz  is  told by three people-Josef, Isabel, and Mohamed. I think that Refugee would be different when told by the parents, because sometimes their kids ate doing different things than them, and everyone has different thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Mostly they are experiencing different things than their children, but some of the time, they  are together.

Whose perspective have you considered as a result of reading this story?

Refugee

In Refugee, I kind of forgot about how there are modern refugees,

that can use phones and other tools, and not just refugees in older times.

Farewell to Manzanar

I feel like I considered Papa as a character. He is a good man, but bad experiences turned him

into a person who is not considered "good"

Can you make connections between the main character and yourself?

Refugee

I cannot connect to  anyone in Refugee

Farewell to Manzanar

I can connect to Jeanne. Both she and I have ourselves and someone else to partly to take care of.

Why is this important?

Refugee

I think that rieading refugee is important to find out the reasons why people move and the many ways that that affects them.

Farewell to Manzanar

I feel that it is important to read about what is happening in Farewell to Manzanar because we could make those same mistakes again and again.

Picture book reflection--final reflection!

Summarize the plot of your book. In 4-5 sentences, explain the character, setting, problem and solution depicted in your story.

Ashia is a mom who loves her daughter and her husband, Issac. but Issac leaves to war, worried about the safety of his family. Ashia gets a letter and they go looking high and low in refugee camps, searching for Issac. then, one day,  Naya finds him... or she thinks she does.

How does the story you wrote connect to our one or more of our Guiding Questions: "Why do people move?" "Why is it important to learn other people's story?" "How do cultural elements like language, religion, or place influence someone's identity?"

My book explains why people move. The family I wrote about is moving because of war.

What did you learn from creating your children's book?

I learned that taking your time is important, and that you can't write a great story you don't feel good about.

What would you change about your book if you had more time?

I would change the wording in my book, and how I started it. There are some parts of the story that I would change because they are similar to Bo's story.

What was your experience working with your group? How did you show our habits of work and learning to contribute to your team? (For examples: Were you a leader that delegated work to others? Were you a worker bee that did much of the final work? Were you encouraging and respectful of all ideas? Did you contribute equal effort?)

I didnt work with a group, but Eva helped me color some, and I got some ideas from Bo.
