Water Cycles

In life science, we have been studying water cycles. For my water cycle project, I made a little book. My character is a raindrop named Mr. Drop. He goes on a journey through the water cycle. But as it turns out, there is  a lot more to it. it's not just water to cloud and back to the river again.  Mr. Drop goes to the ocean to cloud to ground water to river to cloud to... well, I'll let you find out.

SUM OF THE PARTS

For our last project for the semester, we did an essay on water pollution. Here is my work.

SEMESTER TWO

Flora and Fauna: Boise River Who's Who

LT: I can recognize and identify the major species of flora and fauna that depend on the Boise river for life.

We had to roll dice to see what kind of species we would get. I rolled a three, so I had to research water dwelling plants or animals. They also had to live in or use the Boise river.  I picked Bull Trout for my research poster we had to explain the description, behavior, diet, energy source, predators, habitat, reproduction, and how they use the Boise River.

Build a Beast

LT: I can explain how an animal’s adaptations are driven by environmental pressures, such as their ecosystem, predators, and resource availability.

We are learning about adaptations in science right now, and we each created a poster with a creature of our choice (that matches what we rolled), rolling the die to see what adaptations we would get. I created a creature that I called a Horicorn, which is loosely (okay, largely) based off of a book series I love. Part Unicorn and part Alicorn!

Photosynthesis comic

Photo means "light" and synthesis means "to put together". We made a comic to tell others what photosynthesis is. My comic is from the perspective of a flower who explains photosynthesis to us.

LT: I can design a high-quality comic strip that explains the two stage process of photosynthesis.

First draft: The picture was supposed to be here, but we don't know where it went, so that's okay. My final draft didn't change much!

Board game

LT:  I can design a scientifically accurate board game based on the Boise River.

we are creating a board game with 3 other people. ours is based off Monopoly and called Monopoly: River Life. you spend energy, buy habitats, and pull chance cards to see who wins!

This is our final draft.

We worked on it for weeks, revising the draft, figuring out the cards. it turned out quite well, I think. Everybody wants to keep it.
