Dayton’s fourteenth branch library opened in Belmont December 5, 1940 at 1041 Watervliet Avenue. William J. Hamilton was the head librarian. The Belmont district, which had been served by the library book wagon, is now able to provide access to about 5,000 books. The building was a remodeled store.
The book wagon service at Belmont school was discontinued in January of 1941.
The library served the Belmont communities from 1040 until 2019. As Belmont grew, so did the need for a new library. In the summer of 2019 a new building called the Southeast Branch of Dayton Metro Library was opened on Watervliet Ave. The building of the state of the art Library was part of a large construction project to create new branches across Montgomery County.
