While Belmont grew as its own community in the Van Buren Township, in 1929, the area decided to join Dayton. Belmont was annexed to the City of Dayton by Ordinance No. 14226 adopted by the Dayton City Commission on April 9, 1930. The actual annexation would have taken effect thirty days later because the Ordinance was not passed as an emergency measure. Included with Belmont was an area between Wilmington Ave., the CL&N Railroad, and Irving Ave. and all of Patterson Park. The total area annexed was 1,310.1 acres. Properties along the South side of Wayne Ave were already annexed to the City of Dayton in 1909.
1979 presented an opportunity to celebrate 50 years of being part of Dayton. The event included parade featuring local groups and businesses coming together to recognize the union with Dayton.
Back in 1929, owners of properties, within the area to be annexed, circulated a petition. Only property owners would have been eligible to sign the petition. The petition must have contained the signatures of a majority of the of the property owners. Residents presented the petition to the City of Dayton, which prepared the necessary map and legal description. The whole process took several months. Montgomery County approved the removal of the Belmont area from it's Sanitary Sewer District and approve the actual annexation. After the annexation, Van Buren Twp. Trustees sold the site containing the Township Hall on September 27, 1930.
