Rachel

The Corn

Once a tasty source of nourishment

now shriveled and firm,

with a smell like damp wood, earthy.

It looks old with kernels like smooth bumps

in autumn shades 

of dark gold, brown, and bronze.

The leaves are dry and withered

and feel crumbly and rough.

Now, it is just a Thanksgiving decoration,

a shadow of its former self.
