Game Day

Layups, jump-shots, free throws,
twenty each before we run
around the court
seven times
dribbling a ball.

When the ball goes up
Fox gets it and drives.
The first few minutes
nobody makes a shot.
In minute five, sweat drips
from the faces of the other team.
Up the court goes Adebayo
and he dunks.

Fifty-five minutes later
the buzzer sounds.
The Kentucky fans cheer as
Monk lifts the trophy.

Then the crowd falls silent,
all the cheers fade away.
I wake up and stretch,
ready for a new day.
