Inspired by “Under the Lights” by Leonid Afremov
As we stroll down the wooded path,
lustrous in neon lights, the warm
touch of his hand on my waist
sends shivers spiraling down my spine.
The street lights along the passage
beam like small suns, illuminating
his impeccable complexion, his eyes,
the color of the sky at dawn.
The trees merge in enticing patterns,
their foliage creating a collage of lemon yellow,
lilac purple, avocado green and cotton candy pink.
I catch a glimpse of our reflection
in a pool on the wet pavement
below us,
the perfect pair,
and the world stops,
in one indescribable moment
until a single droplet of rain
strikes the pool, dispelling
the portrait,
sending us back
to our separate worlds.
