Today I have two challenges, one is an action, another is an art project. If your family hasn't already, ask them to hang or display the American Flag. This shows patriotism.
"Patriotism or national pride is the feeling of love, devotion and sense of attachment to a homeland and alliance with other citizens who share the same sentiment. This attachment can be a combination of many different feelings relating to one's own homeland, including ethnic, cultural, political or historical aspects."

Here is how I display my flag. How does your family do it? On a pole? If you hang it vertically like me, just make sure you hang the "union" (or the blue with stars) on the left of the observer.
This is the same video I posted the past few days. If you have not seen it, watch it. Great explanation for why we have Memorial Day.
Here is a pop up star activity by Cassie Stephens. She refers to Mother's Day in the video, but we are using this for Memorial Day. Follow her directions to cut the star and glue it to the background paper. But instead of a Mother's Day letter, you can color an American Flag and even write your thoughts and feelings for our country.
Things you will need:
two pieces of paper (thicker would be great but optional)
pencil
scissors
something to color with
black marker
Because we fought for our rights, there are many things we can do, that other nations aren't allowed to do.
Some countries are told who to pray to. We have freedom of religion and have a variety of religions in our country.
We are allowed to vote. Many places are told who their new leaders are without choice, but we have the right to be part of the decision.
We have the right to go to school. Some country leaders get to decide who gets to go to school or not. Think about it, you learn how to read, write and do math...many people around the world can not do these tasks.
We have so many more rights and privileges because so many fought and died for our freedoms.
What are some freedoms you see?
These are just some of things you could write about in your background.
