This challenge is from Lauralee Chambers, another art teacher I enjoy. She does a great job showing you how to draw a sombrero. A sombrero can be a decorative hat, but was originally a simple big hat used for shade. Sombreros were decorated for celebrations. Try drawing a sombrero and coloring it.
Maracas are an instruments used in Mexican music. You can make your own maracas with:
Leftover plastic easter egg
two plastic spoons
rice, salt, or little hard noodles
tape
First, partly fill the egg with rice, not to much, you need plenty of space for it to shake around inside. Next, close it up and place the egg on the rounded part of the spoons (see the picture). Finally wrap tape around the rounded parts and at the base of the spoons to secure them together. Now you can shake your maracas to the beat of a song or make up your own rythmn. Enjoy
Art Hub for kids has a fun lesson on how to draw a Pinata. A Pinata is used in Mexican celebrations. In these celebrations, the stick which is used to break the pinata represents and symbolizes love. It is believed to destroy a persons sins (or mistakes) by hitting and breaking the pinata into pieces. The candies and treats that come pouring out from the broken piñata symbolize the forgiveness of sins and a new beginning. The blind fold is represented as faith.
Another Art Hub for kids lesson shows you how to draw a cute little cinco de mayo girl.
