Kahramanmaras, historically Marash (Turkish: Maraş) and Germanicea (Greek: Γερμανίκεια), and is the 11th largest city in Türkiye areawise, at 568 meters above sea level in the city center. It's population is over 1 million, divided almost equally between its towns and villages.

Our base is located right outside Maras, which is still considered a Red danger zone. There ıs not a lot of 'tourısty' thıngs to do ın the ımmedıate area. 

After the earthquakes, there are no many available hotels or airbnbs in Maras. If you would like to join us as a day volunteer, please find accommodation before joining us to the program. • Please remove your hats and sunglasses when meeting someone for the first time.

• There are varying degrees of religious feeling in Turkiye and shaking hands with the opposite sex may be frowned upon by some, to avoid embarrassment do not offer your hand to shake unless one is offered to you first.

• If you are offered coffee or Chai by a local and decline they will assume you are hungry and bring you food instead.

• Remove your shoes when going inside any structure that may be someone's home - even tents.

September: As September arrives, temperatures start to cool down slightly in Kahramanmaraş. The average high temperature decreases to around 30°C (86°F), while the average low drops to 16°C (61°F). It is a transition month between summer and autumn.

October: October marks the beginning of autumn in Kahramanmaraş. The weather becomes milder with an average high temperature of around 25°C (77°F) and an average low of 11°C (52°F). The nights may start to get cooler, so it's advisable to carry a light jacket or sweater.
